Fathers Provoke Children
This is Basil Frasure with Whole Person Counseling of San Angelo.

If you experience chronic bouts with anger, discouragement, or depression, these bouts may be associated with how your father or other authority figures treated you as a child. Emotional wounds just don't automatically go away.  If your father belittled you through his words, actions, or attitudes, then it may be difficult for you to have a positive image of yourself.

Colossians 3:21 states, "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged."

If your father provoked you to anger though his anger, unkept promises, neglect, or abuse, you may wrestle with discouragement as an adult.  It also may be hard for you to have proper relationships, especially with authority figures, even your heavenly Father.

However, you don't have to continue to live under the curse of discouragement! Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and set free those who have been bound by emotional bruises.  Through learning who you are in Christ, tearing down some strongholds, and receiving emotional healing, you may experience a life filled with encouragement.
