Generational Curses

Do you wrestle with repeated moral failures?  Are there addictions that you just can't seem to break?  Did or do your parents or grandparents struggle in the same or similar areas?  Maybe, you have inherited these negative traits from your forefathers.

The Word says that the iniquities of the forefathers are passed down upon the children to the third and fourth generations.  The word translated "iniquity" literally means "perversion".  The picture is that we may inherit a "bent" toward sin.  However, this does not mean that one has to sin in the area, but there is a built in weakness in that area.  However, once one yields to the temptation of the iniquity, then it can easily become a stronghold of sin.

The Word also defines this bondage to sin as being a curse under the law.  This curse can not be broken by one's will power or by self-determination.  However, there is an answer!  Jesus became a curse for us that we may be set free from the curse and overcome the inherited sinful traits.

Paul wrote, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."  No Believer has to continue in the bondage of addictions.
