Generally, the individual has suffered severe abuse or what he perceives to be extreme rejection as a child. Then as a young adult, he experiences more rejection or failure that triggers the episodes of schizophrenia. Usually, the individual withdraws within himself in fear. He then becomes extremely passive and fails to guard his mind and imagination from the voices of the enemy. Soon, the individual's mind falls to the control of the voices and vain imaginations. Often the individual has extreme difficulty in distinguishing the voices of the enemy from the voice of God or even the voice of his own conscience. Therefore, the individual must discover his identity in Christ, receive a clear conscience and emotional healing, then learn to distinguish between the voices and resist the enemy. Again, he must learn to be assertive in Christ and not passive to the enemy. This usually takes faith, time, and determination.
