12 Years Before Healing
Quite often people who have had mental, emotional, or physical problems for some time get stuck there in their thinking and lose hope of ever getting well or overcoming the problems. Solomon said, "The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?"
In the Gospel of Luke, we have a story about a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years. She had spent all of her living on physicians and no one could heal her. Mark records that she was in a worse condition after she had gone to see the doctors more than she was before.
It is significant that each of the gospels record that she had had the disease for twelve years. In the Jewish thought, the number "twelve" is the number for rulership. If she would have had the disease for eight years or even for ten years, there would still have been some hope of getting well. However, since she had it for twelve years, this implies that the disease ruled over her life and there was no hope.
However, with God all things are possible! The woman heard of Jesus; therefore by faith, she said to herself, if she but touched his garment, she would be made whole. She had to look beyond her circumstance to see what God could do. If you have been ill for some time, you also need to look beyond your illness to see what God can do through Jesus.
